PREPARATION OF THIN TARGETS WITH ELECTROSPRAYING

The preparation of various powder--material targets in thicknesses of 0.03 to2 mg/cm~2 on thin backing of aluminium, gold and carbon using a simple electro--spraying apparatus is described. The target non--uniformities are measured withα--thickness gauging and in most cases they are less than 8%. The size of theneedle and the voltages of the applied fields to the needle and to the collimatorare the key factors in successful preparation of powder--material targets.
