DETERMINATION OF IMPURITIES IN NUCLEAR GRADE GRAPHITES BY INSTRUMENTAL NEUTRON ACTIVATION ANALYSIS

  • The graphite samples used as the reflector in the heavy water reactor areanalysed by instrumental neutron activation analysis for Co, Cr, Eu, Fe, Sc andSb. Samples are taken from different positions in the graphite reflector. Elementalconcentrations for different samples vary beyond the statistical errors with theanalytical method. This indicates a heterogeneity in impurity distribution. The γray radiation dose for serviceman calculated based on this work is below themaximum allowable level. The results are within the same order of magnitude aspublished in literature.
