DETERMINATIONS OF TOTAL RESIDUE. TOTAL OXIDE AND DENSITY OF HIGH-LEVEL LIQUID WASTE(HLLW) BY GRAVIMETRIC METHOD

  • Gravimetric method for determination of total residue, total oxide and density of HLLW is developed. An aliquot of the original HLLW solution is pipetted on to the small quartz disc and put into the minimuffle furnace carefully. It is first heated to below 100 C for 1. 5 hours to remove the free water. and then heated to 180 C for 2 hours to remove the crystal water in a furnace. The total residue is weighed at room temperature. The furnace is then heated to 700 C for one hour. The total oxide is weighed at room temperature. The precision is better than 3% for the determination of total residue and total oxide. An aliquot of the original HLLW solution is pipetted into the weighing bottle and weighed. The precision is better than 1%.
