The technological condition and process for the dehydration of chemical sludge with water content over 90% are studied by means of freeze-thaw method. The freezing point, precipitation behaviour and volume reducing ratio of the sludge are measured. The results show that the precipitation property of freeze-thaw sludge is better than that of non-freeze-thaw sludge. For the sludge with solid content (3—4)%(m/m), the volume reducing ratio is higher than 5 after freeze-thaw processing. The quickly dewatering effect and characteristics of the actual radioactive sludge freezed by liquid nitrogen are also studied.
