Mass Measurement of Plutonium With Calorimetric Method

  • In nuclear safeguards field, calorimeter is one of the most accurate and convenient nondestructive instruments for nuclear material accountancy. A calorimeter designed to measure plutonium in storage containers with thermal powers ranging from 0.1 to 15 W was used to measure the mass of 238Pu in three samples. Measured results show that the relative deviation between the measured 238Pu mass and standard reference 238Pu mass in samples of 238Pu is -1.7%.
