Simulation of Electron Cyclotron Current Drive in ITER

  • A numerical simulation of electron cyclotron current drive under ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) parameters was performed with the relativistic Fokker-Planck equation incorporated into a ray tracing code. While the toroidal incident angles are not very large, the wave power deposits in the high-filed-side of ITER. While the toroidal incident angle is 21°, the wave power deposits in the central plasma and the plasma current in the central plasma is driven. While the toroidal incident angles turn to large, the wave power deposits in the low-filed-side of ITER. Electron cyclotron waves are able to drive the plasma current in the area r/a <0.35 and have a higher current drive efficiency while the incident angles are in the range of 20° to 30°.
