Determination of Uranium-Radium Equilibrium Coefficient of Uranium Ore Sample Using Characteristic Peaks in γ-ray Spectrum

  • It is important to acquire the equilibrium feature of uranium series for the estimation of reserves in uranium exploration. The theory of direct determination of uranium-radium equilibrium coefficient in the uranium ore by the γ characteristic radiation peaks in the multichannel γ-ray spectrum was analyzed. The procedure was researched for the determination of radioisotopes content of 238U according to the 1 001.03 keV peak, 226Ra according to the 934.06 keV peak and assessing the degree of uranium-radium equilibrium in natural uranium ore by measuring its high-resolution multichannel γ-ray spectrum. To study the possibility of such a procedure, the γ-ray spectra of four models of ore strata were measured. Results of the experimentation indicate that this method can be applied to the exploration of uranium resource by γ-ray logging.
