Emergency Reload Design for U1C6 of Tianwan Nuclear Power Station

  • If the fuel assemblies were found to be broken or unable to be returned to the core (due to any reasons) during the period of reactor shut down, an emergency reload design had to be required. Assuming that one assembly was broken during the operation of the 5th cycle of Unit 1 (U1C5) in Tianwan Nuclear Power Station (TNPS), an emergency reload research for U1C6 was finished to all the possible conditions. According to the actual problem that the 84th assembly of U1C5 was found to be broken, an emergency reload design for U1C6 was performed with great efficiency and effectiveness. The first emergency design achieved in this paper was approved successfully by the National Nuclear Safety Administration through the safety evaluation process, and has been currently employed at TNPS.
