Study on Application of Radioactive Waste Classification Based on Disposal

  • Classification management of radioactive waste can reduce the amount of disposal waste effectively, lighten the burden on operating units and reduce effects on environment. There are various alternatives for classifying radioactive waste. Waste classification associated with disposal is the prior alternative of IAEA. Comprehensive nuclear research institute has many types of nuclear facilities, in which waste generated is complex, so classification management of radioactive waste is especially important. China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) was selected as research object in this paper. The suggestions on waste classification were given by studying domestic and international waste classification systems and analyzing waste features of CIAE. Radioactive waste is divided in five classes. Moreover, waste information management requirements for whole process were given in this paper.
