Design and Test Verification for 192Ir Test Target in CARR

  • The 192Ir test target was designed and manufactured in order to support the project of 192Ir irradiation production in China Advanced Research Reactor (CARR). Design parameters and structural dimensions of test target were described. The special heat transfer device was used to simulate outer and inner heat transfer conditions of the test target. The wall temperature and inner temperature of the heat transfer device were measured, which simulated the wall temperature of capsule and the temperature of specimens in capsule. The results prove that the thermal analysis method is suitable. The in-pile test target contains the capsule with specimens and the simulating capsules with equivalent heat transfer conditions. Data obtained from in-pile tests verify the results of physical and thermal analysis comprehensively, which can provide a basis for safety evaluation of 192Ir irradiation production in CARR and are conservative.
