Method Based on Multiple Measuring Points for Monitoring and Positioning Radiation Source

  • A method for regional radiation source positioning and activity measurement was presented in this paper. The accurate positioning and activity measurement of radiation source were realized using directional and count informations measured by multiple detector units, and each detector unit consists of a CsI(Tl)-crystal-array-coupled with H8500 photomultiplier. The azimuth of radiation source was achieved by analyzing the count ratio of various crystals within each detector unit. At last, the above method was verified using a 68Ge radiation source. The results show that by combining the directional and count informations of two detector units, through a rational layout, the accurate monitoring and positioning of radiation source can be realized with a relative error less than 5% for both positioning and activity measurement.
