Development of HLS High Power Solid State Amplifier

  • A solid state amplifier (SSA) was developed and used on the beam operation for 800 MeV electron storage ring in Hefei Light Source (HLS). Two combining ways (8×6 and 8×8) were designed for SSA, in which 48 and 64 amplifier units were employed, respectively. The S parameters of combiners and splitters and the gain of amplifier units were measured by a network analyzer. The gain of amplifier unit is 24 dB at 650 W, and the SWR of combiners and splitters is less than 1.07. The SSA output powers of two combining ways are up to 33 kW and 45 kW respectively, and the combining efficiency is about 95%. The SSA is assembled in the 48-way combination and operates in the RF system of storage ring. When the SSA output power is 20 kW, the beam of 460 mA is accumulated in the storage ring, whose power is 7.5 kW.
