Numerical Study on Effect of Different Turbulence Models on Hydrogen Distribution

  • The hydrogen distribution analysis helps to evaluate hydrogen risk. In this paper, the THAI facility HM2 test was modeled by 3D CFD code. Algebraic and k-ε turbulence models were used respectively to simulate the forming and erosion process of hydrogen stratification. The results agree with the experimental data. In simulation, the process of hydrogen stratification and erosion by steam jet are observed. In hydrogen injection phase, both turbulence models can describe the stratification process. However, in steam injection phase, the algebraic model based on semi-empirical mixing length theory is not ideal to simulate the stratification erosion by steam. The simulation results by k-ε model are close to the experimental data.
