Abstract
Two types of finite element models were established for the seismic analysis of hanged storage tank. The first one was mass-spring model based on Housner model and ASCE 4-98 codes, and the bending moment at the bottom of the container was equivalent to the pressure of the wall through increasing the height of the pressure. The second one was established by improving Housner model, and the bending moment at the bottom of the container was calculated by formula and applied to the bottom of the container. Modal solving and spectrum analysis were performed to obtain the vibration characteristic and stress distribution of tank, and the results were compared. The results show that the first model can not be applied to the hanged storage tank because of the loss of the stress causing by the moment at the bottom between the vessel bottom and the ear, and the stress results are not realistic and not conservative. The second model is more reliable.
