Abstract
The E-v method of measuring the kinetic energy (E) and velocity (v) of outgoing fission fragments was utilized with the goal of fission products mass distribution measurements. This work focuses on testing the feasibility and solving some key technologies of E-v method for mass distribution measurement. The experiment system consists of detector components for time-of-flight, energy measurements and flight path vacuum tube. A pair of micro-channel plates for particle time-of-flight measurement were used to determine the particle velocity. A golden silicon surface barrier detector is for energy. The time-of-flight system time resolution (FWHM) is 186 ps and the energy resolution (FWHM) is 44 keV for 5.48 MeV α particle of 241Am. Fission products mass distribution of 252Cf spontaneous fission was measured. A preliminary result of 252Cf spontaneous fission mass distribution resolution is 1.6 amu (atom mass unit) at the mass of about 110 amu.
