Experiment Research on Passive Containment Cooling System with Separated Heat Pipe

  • Passive containment cooling system (PCS) is an important system for severe accident mitigation. Separated heat pipe is a good choice for PCS with high priority, which can transfer heat with high efficiency. The experiment research on PCS with separated heat pipe was introduced in this paper, including modeling and scaling of experiment facility, experiment system and experiment result. The heat transfer characteristic and maximum heat removal capacity of separated heat pipe in special conditions were analyzed. Finally, the feasibility of PCS with separated heat pipe was demonstrated. The results show that the heat exchange amount of unit hot end area for separated heat pipe is up to 61 kW, which has the potential to be applied to PCS. The heat transfer performance of the heat pipe decreases with the temperature difference between the hot and cold ends, and increases with the vacuum.
