Study of Impact Limiter for MOX Fuel Assembly-Transportation Package of Fast Reactor

  • The impact limiter of the fast reactor MOX fuel assembly transportation package is an important component that determines the safety of its radioactive containment boundary. The aluminum foam material was selected for a certain type of MOX fuel assembly transportation package for the first time. In this paper, energy absorption principle was analyzed by standard postures of free drop experiment. The type, structure and key parameters applicable to the impact limiter material were designed. Three types of experiments on quasi-static and dynamic mechanical properties of tensile, compression and shear were carried out for the selected material. The material constitutive relation parameters for numerical simulation were obtained, and the parameters of the model were tested and verified by the bending test. Comparison result between finite element analysis and experimental results shows that material constitutive relation for the impact limiter of the transportation package has applicability, and it will be used in the free drop analysis calculation for a certain type of MOX fuel assembly transportation package of fast reactor.
