Design and Prototyping of GEM Electronic Board

More Information
  • GEM electronic board (GEB) plays a very important role in the detector system of large-area GEM detector. In order to meet the requirement of high-speed electronics signal transmission, electromagnetic shielding and power supply for the front-end electronics in GEM detector system, the large-area GEB with an 8-layer structure was designed in this paper, and the electrical performance test, mechanic compatibility test, signal transmission and noise level test were conducted on the GEB prototypes. The test results show that the bit error rate of signal transmission at the speed of 320 Mb/s is less than 10-13 on GEB, which verifies that the signals are successfully transmitted on front-end electronics on the basis of keeping signal high-speed and integrity. The symmetry stack-up design of GEB overcomes the difficulty of high degree bending in the production of large-area electronic boards, its bending value is greatly reduced by 2/3, and the average bending value is 1 mm, which enhances operational stability of the front-end electronics in the GEM detector system.
