Internal Event Probabilistic Safety Analysis of Liquid Metal Reactor Spent Fuel Container with Coolant

  • Liquid metal coolant brings advantage about nuclear safety and heat efficiency, at the same time, complicating the reactor refueling system. Spent fuel container with coolant is the core of the spent fuel unloading process of the large liquid metal reactor, and brings new risk because it maybe contain a large amount of spent fuels. The risk analysis of a typical spent fuel container with probability safety assessment (PSA) method was completed, and the spent fuel damage sequence/minimal cuts and list of key component about the risk with the plant operation state assessment, initial event assessment, accident sequence assessment and simply risk quantification were identified. The results show that the risk of spent fuel container is much lower than that of the core but not can be ignored, and the quantified result of PSA is sensitive to the operation mode of the reactor and the reliability of the fuel cleaning system. Finally some design improvement suggestions were given base the quantified result and sensitivity analysis.
