  • Laser is short for the light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation, and the characteristics of laser include good directivity, good monochromaticity, high coherence and high concentration of energy in space. With the rapid development, laser has become a new method to study nuclear science besides accelerator and reactor, which brings a historic opportunity for the laser nuclear physics. In this paper, the development history of laser physics research in China Institute of Atomic Energy was briefly reviewed. The current status and the new progress of excimer laser technology, shock wave physics, ultrafast laser technology, strong field physics, laser nuclear physics and spectroscopy technology were summarized. Finally, the future development of “Super HEAVEN” laser facility, physical research on large laser facility and application of mini laser were proposed.
