R&D in Deep-pool Low-temperature Heating Reactor Technology

  • The Deep-pool Low-temperature Heating Reactor (DHR) is a safe, economical, green and environmentally friendly small reactor designed by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), and dedicates to meet the demand for clean heating in northern China based on the safe and stable operation of pool-type reactors for more than 50 years. After the release of the “Yanlong” prototype at the end of 2017, it received extensive attention from all levels and sectors of society. CNNC has carried out demonstration projects on several sites but none of them have being “landing”, which, in summary, is due to three main concerns: economy, public acceptance and site adaptability. To address these three issues, the optimization of scheme design, the design of entirely passive waste heat removal system and the development of regulations and standards applicable to DHR have been carried out based on the technical characteristics of DHR, resulting in improved safety and significantly enhanced economy, which helps the “landing” of subsequent demonstration projects, and will contribute to the “Beautiful China, Healthy China” strategy.
