    Abstract: A method is presented for determination of americium in 1 g soil by solventextraction. Decontamination factors of the recommended procedure are greater than10~3 for natural Th, ~(233)U, ~(237)Np, ~(239)Pu and ~(244)Cm respectively. Experimental resultsindicated that no contamination of Am extract from other α--emitters could befound by a spectrometry. In the case of low--level measurement (~(241)Am, 5.23×10~(-3)Bq), an averagerecovery of 7.8±8.9% is obtained and the lower detection limit of the presentmethod is 3.3×10~4Bq. This method is suitable for estimation of Am content in both seafood--ashesand sediment samples as well.
