Abstract:
A method for preparing uniform rare earth targets is described. Targets of La, Ce, Sm, Yb, Eu, ~(158)Gd and ~(160)Dy with thicknesses of 0.1 to 2.0mg/cm~2 were prepared on substrates of aluminum and stainless steel by electrodeposition from a solution of their nitrates in isopropyl alcohol. The deposition yield was investigated as a fuction of several parameters such as duration of the deposition, cathode to anode distance and current density. Targets of good adhesion with a thickness of more than 0.5mg/cm~2 were obtained by repeating electrodeposition of layers and heating the foils at 500℃.
