Abstract:
Based on the randomness of space and direction distribution of α particles (emitted) by radon and its daughters in the volume of detector can, a Monte-Carlo code was developed to calculate the calibration factor of Solid State Nuclear Track Detector (SSNTD) for radon. For various sizes of (cylindric) can and various types of SSNTD(CR-39 and LR-115), the calculated calibration factors are in good agreement with those measured. The effects of atmospheric pressure on the calibration factor of SSNTD for radon were also calculated. The results show that for a decrease of air pressure to 0.65 atmosphere, the calibration factors increase by 31% and 17%, respectively for LR-115 and CR-39.
