Abstract:
To determine the radiationdetection performance of ZnO(In) samples for the use in the pulsed charged particle and neutron beam measurements, an
241Am-α source was used to irradiate five ZnO(In) samples from Cermet Inc. and EJ212, BC418, ST401, CeF
3 scintillators. The α-particle spectra and pulsed time response waveforms obtained from the measurement indicate that the ZnO(In) single-crystal is a promising scintillator with relatively high light output and fast timing characteristic. And the luminosity from film side excited by same α source is 3-5 times of that from the substrate side in all the samples, showing directional luminescence under α-particle-excitation. The experimental results show that ZnO(In) is one of the highly desirable candidate scintillations for ultrafast pulsed radiation detection.
