Abstract:
The safety management of high level liquid waste (HLLW) is one of the most important factors in the sustainable development of nuclear energy. Removal of
90Sr from HLLW not only reduces the radiation fields in subsequent fuel cycle reprocessing streams, but also has certain economic value. The methods used in the partitioning of
90Sr from HLLW include the precipitation method, the ion exchange, the solvent extraction, the chromatography and the membrane separation. It has been proved that the solvent extraction is the most effective way used in industrial scale and the chromatography is also promising. Although the present work is attractive, there are still problems to be solved. Finally, the prospects of the development of these fields were also discussed.
