Abstract:
Six types of conceptual design of accelerator driven sub-critical system (ADS) were proposed considering the effect of initial plutonium loading for ADS to transmute minor actinides. In the specific design, uranium-free metallic dispersion fuel of (TRU-10Zr)-Zr* was used as the fuel. MCNP and ORIGEN2 codes were applied to the neutron simulation and burnup calculation for ADS, and the MA transmutation effect, the effective multiplication factor
keff and proton beam current corresponding to initial plutonium content were investigated. The results show that, with the increase of the initial plutonium content, the transmutation rate of MA decreases and the initial proton beam current increases; the initial plutonium content is less than 33%, the variation of the effective multiplication factor with burnup time increases at first and then decreases, when greater than 33%, it decreases all the time, and with the increase of the initial Pu content,
keff decreases more obviously. Therefore, 33% of the initial plutonium content of the conceptual design is chosen, the relative change of
keff is less than 1%, the proton beam current is less than 20 mA, the transmutation rate of MA can reach 28.06%, and support ratio of MA transmutation can reach 29.23.
