Abstract:
A conceptual design of a subcritical blanket which was driven by a fusion neutron source was proposed for the transmutation of minor actinides. The neutronics parameters of transmutation blanket were carried out by a code package coupling the Monte-Carlo transport code and ORIGEN2 depletion code, which mainly included the energy multiplication factor (
M), the tritium breeding ratio (TBR) and the first neutron wall loading. The transmutation capabilities of two loading patterns were performed and compared under the condition of the neutronics parameters to meet the design requirements. The final transmutation fraction of MA can reach 24.3%, and support ratio of MA transmutation can reach 28. The study result shows that the fusion-driven subcritical transmutation blanket can effectively burn MA.
