Abstract:
The radioisotope
14C is produced mainly by the irradiation of high-purity AlN powder targets in nuclear reactors, and the generation of heat during the exposure is the main factor which may compromise the target safety. In this paper, the nuclear heat and surface temperature of target were given by analog computation using MCNP and RELAP5. Calculated values of these parameters were then compared with the experimental data. The results show that targets during the exposure in nuclear reactors are safe and controllable.
