Abstract:
The ANISN code, one-dimensional discrete ordinates transport code, was used for the shield calculation to evaluate the shield capability of metal hydrides in the case of small sodium-cooled fast reactor’s energy spectra. The results indicate that LiH, TiH
2 and ZrH
2 show superior shield capability. Mixing LiH with stainless steel, TiH
2 with boron carbide and ZrH
2 with boron carbide, can improve the shield properties. These compound materials can be used for small sodium-cooled fast reactor’s shield and significantly reduce the weight and volume of reactor system.
