Abstract:
In order to evaluate the measurement results more accurately, the influence and its degree of crosstalk phenomenon on the measurement results were studied by using the low background alpha and beta measuring instrument. The crosstalk factor between alpha and beta channels was measured by using
90Sr-
90Y and
239Pu electroplating source. The results indicate that the crosstalk factor of alpha to beta is obvious, and the counts from crosstalk should be deducted. The crosstalk factor of beta to alpha is negligible, but it still could bring significant impact to measurement results when the net counts of beta are high enough. In the process of sample measurement, the difference of crosstalk factor caused by different radionuclides should be considered. In order to avoid introducing a new error from the crosstalk factor which is acquired from single radionuclide, using appropriate shielding materials to shield the alpha radiation is an effective way to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results.
