Abstract:
To address these challenges, including the low utilization rate of nuclear fuel and difficulties in safe disposal of nuclear spent fuels, Chinese Academy of Sciences proposed an accelerator-driven advanced nuclear energy system (ADANES). A lot of large-scale preliminary calculations and tests were carried out on superconducting linear accelerator, high-power spallation target, core structural material, spent fuel reprocessing and new fuel preparation. The feasibility of the principle was proved, and a series of laboratory simulation validations were completed and breakthroughs were made. At present, China initiative Accelerator Driven System (CiADS) has been supported by the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” national major scientific and technological infrastructure, and is scheduled to start construction in 2019.
