Abstract:
First physics start-up of the lead core of Venus-Ⅱ aims to load the nuclear fuel elements into the lead core which is the first zero power reactor for lead-cooled fast reactor in China, and confirm the safety characteristics of the core. The lead core uses two kinds of nuclear fuel elements. The number of fuel elements in critical is large. The reactivity worth of fuel elements in different locations is widely dissimilar. In considering these features, the initial neutron source and neutron monitoring detectors were carefully selected and validated in first physics start-up, the influence in neutron scattering and absorbing by simulacrum elements was evaluated and a specific loading pattern with sub-zone extrapolation was formulated. According to the loading pattern, the lead core completed fuel loading and reached critical safely. The reactivity of simulacrum elements, fuel elements, safety rod and adjust rod was measured. This work provides important experimental parameters and critical loading pattern for subsequent experiments.
